CVN lab goes to ICVM

August 6th 2023

I attended the International Conference of Vertebrate Morphology (ICVM) in Cairns, Australia this summer.

I organized and hosted a symposium entitled “Traumatic brain injury, not just for humans” where we were able to host six speakers from around the world to discuss occurrences of TBI in “uncommon” species like the mangrove rivulus fish (Earley lab), dolphins (Brigid Maloney), or muskoxen (Joy Reidenberg and myself). Greg Hollin also discussed studying researchers that study TBI.

It was great to exchange ideas with other conference attendees in the idyllic setting offered by Cairns’ proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.

This symposium was generously supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, The Company of Biologists, and Anatomical Record. I am currently working with the Anatomical Record to make this symposium into an upcoming special issue in 2024.

Thanks to Catherine Williams for illustrating our talks!
